Everyone needs to walk with Jesus, and everyone is different. This selection of studies aims to help young adults walk with Jesus and His community.

Have you asked Why?

Are you feeling disconnection from your faith community? Have you ever considered the “old ways”? or asked the question “How can I engage with God in a way that is helpful to who I am as an individual”? Well, this may be the resource for you.

Why did you call it “The Spiritual Disciplines Project”?

We think that humans are tripartite, made up of mind, body, and spirit.

The spirit part allows humans to commune with God freely – in spirit. However, we are all individuals and can do this communication or connection thing differently to others around us. Hence the need to design a rhythm of helpful healthy disciplines that suit the individual, you

We have chosen to use disciplines rather than practices as there seems to be more urgency, impetus, and importance

However, you’ll find that different people will use them interchangeable. But at the heart of this project we want participants to lean in regardless and, in community with others, design their own daily spiritual disciplines.

We have chosen to use project as we want the participant to give things a go

Participants can try new things, and from these trials find what works best for them.

How do we use this resource?

Exploring and Exercising these spiritual disciplines to get the most out of the resource it is best that participants are:

1. In community with others.

This resource seeks individuals design there own daily disciplines to form resilient faith. However, humanity was created to be in community together. The best way to create daily rhythms is to try them, reflect on the experience with others, and to be held accountable by others as individuals choose to follow through on something.

2. Trying each discipline, individually, daily for a solid week.

3. Sharing with your community how it shapes your walk with Jesus

There are no study questions in this resource. The hope is that in community conversation will take place around a few main questions:

    1. What has God taught you about yourself?
    2. What did you find helpful when you tried ____________ this week/fortnight/month?
    3. What did you find unhelpful when you tried ____________ this week/fortnight/month?
    4. How can we keep you accountable in?

4. Keeping your community gracefully accountable to their learning and growth.

  1. Accountability can take many shapes. When a participant asks to be held accountable to something it is important that the community or another individual from the community follows through and keeps that person accountable:
  •  Ask the participant, how would you like to be held accountable? They could respond with just a text, phone call, email, private message on [enter day] asking [add question] or could we meet up in a few days for a walk/coffee and chat, and when we are there could you ask me [enter question]?

5. Designing your own daily disciplines to form resilient faith.

At the end of this resource our prayer is that individuals will seek to live out their newly designed daily disciplines and be more connected to their communities than before.
